2015 McKenna speaks at Oxford on 'changing role of UK universities

Professor Gerry McKenna MRIA delivered a lecture and seminar at Worcester College, Oxford in July 2015 on ‘The changing roles of UK universities’. The wide ranging presentation was part of the Georgia Tech Summer School programme at Oxford. He outlined the history of higher education in the UK and the changes in its governance, funding and strategic priorities that had occurred in response to recognition of its economic significance and the development of a mass higher education system. Professor McKenna noted the increased reliance on university expansion (and associated student debt) to fuel local economic regeneration and questioned the long-term sustainability of this model of economic growth.
