Gerry McKenna to Deliver Peace Lecture in Iraq
Professor Gerry McKenna will deliver a keynote address at a major international conference on ‘Religious Pluralism in the Dialogue of Civilizations’ to be held in Iraq in late February. He has been invited by the Iraq Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He will speak on ‘the importance of equality, economic development and education in preventing and reducing political and religious conflict – lessons from Northern Ireland’. An internationally acclaimed academic leader in the life and health sciences, Professor McKenna is currently President Emeritus and Honorary Executive Secretary of the Heads of University Centres of Biomedical Sciences (HUCBMS). A former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ulster, Professor McKenna was co-founder of the Northern Ireland Science Park and was founding Chair of Universities Ireland. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.
